I just recently bought a pair of Sherpa Pinnacles and quickly put them to use in the White Mountains of NH amd Maine. I am 190 pounds and was carrying a 65 pound pack. I at first was sceptical on the floatation of the 9x30 shoe but for the mixed conditions and the underbrush and 'shwack this sized proved best. Floatation was adequite in the powder and the aggressive crampon design was good on icy/crusted traverses and proved itself well on steep ice under the powder when I couldn't get my 12 pointers on. This shoe in a plastic boot was super overall. I did have a slight problem with the binding. The rear strap is supposed to go around the achilles and above the heal at an angle but the design of my plastic boot was flat there and didn't hold the strap at that angle therefore a foot would come out occasionally. The crampon flange on the heal of this boot did a fairly good job of holding the rear strap. I had no problem with this in leather boots. The simple binding is just what you want far from the trail head. Similar Products Used: Tubbs Seirra. Tubbs Katahdin. Tubbs Mountain 36. |
