Got these about two years ago. I have hiked all over the place around my house. Over rocks, over downed trees, up hill, down hills. I haven't babied them. And I have been very happy with them. They really take a beating and provide great traction any time I find myself in some icy conditions. Got my better half a pair I liked them so much.

Altitude 2004 model with BearHug bindings. These snowshoes are light, comfortable, with great traction when climbing. The bindings are easy and quick to use. Quality seems high, finish is excellent. I am new to the sport, so cannot compare to other brands. I weigh 175 pounds, so am close to the upper limit on the recommended wt. Work well except in deep powder, but again, I have not tried longer ones to know how they would behave. Would recommend without hesitation.

I purchased a pair of Altitude 30''s in March of 2000. On the first trip out into the mountains, a rivet popped out and caused a rip in the decking. On the third trip out another rivet popped. Made about 12 trips into the mountains in 2001 winter with no reall problems. Then, in Dec 2001, second trip of the season, the metal wing support broke on one shoe. Made a quick field repair and hobbled out, killing the day. Sent in for repair, took a couple of weeks, but no charge. Then again, the wing support broke on the other shoe a couple of weeks ago. That was it, this shoe is unreliable and undependable. The good folks at MEC honoured their product and issued me a full refund. Don''t buy this shoe if you are an avid snowshoer who likes to spend full days and/or do overnight winter camps, this shoe could not stand up to the rigors of week in and week out snowshoeing. With my pack on the total weight was around 200 lbs, these shoes were rated for higher and could not take it. You must have faith in the equipment when you go into the backcountry, these shoes did not give me any confidence whatsoever. So long, Tubbs!

Customer Service

Emailed them about the broken metal wing support and heard nothing in return.

I used these during a month-long stint at Holden Village in Washington's Cascades. I had never done any snowshoeing before and loved it. I had absolutely no problems with them Altitude 25's. They gripped uphill and down (with the right weight shift and steep enough terrain you could get them to break loose and ski). They stood up to me jumping off anything I could find into deep powder and even to a little snowshoe ballet competition. I never had problems with the bindings nor did they affect my natural stride noticeably. I would caution that if you are near the break between recommended sizes that you go with the larger one if you are going to be in powder. I felt like I was sinking a little more than I should have been at times. Thanks, Tubbs!

I rented a set of Model 30's. I took two hikes for about 6 hours total use. Snow condtion's on the first hike was glazed hard-pack trail, with some soft snow trail breaking. Second hike was through dense bush on older snowpack. From Best to worst here are my opions; Crampons. They gripped very well as I was travelling over some quite hilly terrrain. Binding. Again very good. I like the design very much. Especially the toe loop and supports on the side of the foot. The only problem was that they were too small for my size 12 Sorels. I wonder if Tubbs makes a larger binding. Flotation - Provided adequate flotation for my 180 lbs kitted out for day hiking. Footprint depresion was about 2"" in the softer stuff. I would have been up to my knees plus with out them. Shape - I seemed to knock the shoes together more than other shoes I have tried and the webbing seem to catch irratably. Decking - Ugh! On hard pack the webing had a very irritating plasticy sound to it. Very upsetting to the tranquil nature of my surrondings. Not quite so bad in soft snow.

I used these on a 5 mile hike up and down the slopes at Mt. Bachelor. I really didn't like them. They had good grip going up hil, but slid going down. The straps were a pain and the bindings didn't hold my foot parallel with the shoe.

I have own a pair of Altitude snow shoes for 2 years. Been the first high tech showshoes i have tried i can say i was originaly very impressed and still am today. After 2 years of abuse in all kind of condition they still look brand new and i haven' t broken a thing. They sink a bit more than the traditional i was used to in powder but as soon as i lift my foot up they get tilt and the snow slide very easily. The only thing i don' t like is the plastic noise when i walk on palked snow.

Customer Service

i own a pair of the tubbs katahdin series snow shoes. i've used them many times for week long backpacking trips in the middle of january, and they've been great. they hold me up in the snow wonderfully, and they provide really good grip when climbing up some of the iceier parts of the trails. they're very light, and i haven't put a dent in the frame yet. these are great snow shoes for anyone

Customer Service

since the manufacturer is about an hour away from my house, they've been wonderful about replacing any torne straps and answering any questions that i've had.
