These bindings are comfortable, fast, responsive. I also appreciate the flexibility in boot selection. I ride with 2001/2002 Salomon Synapse boots that work well with the Flow system.
Weakness:
A bit heavy, lack of "on the hill" adjustability I purchased these bindings as part of the solution to alleviate pressure points on the front of my lead foot. I wasn''t expecting a huge performance benefit when I purchased these bindings but I have been very pleasantly surprised with the performance and comfort of the Flow system. Although I have enjoyed the performance, weight, and adjustability of my strap bindings, I feel that I have gained more than I have lost by switching to the Flow system. On the positive side, the Flows are very comfortable, responsive, and convenient (I generally strap in on the lifts or on my way down the hill, very nice). On the negative side, the bindings don''t have the "on the hill" adjustability of strap bindings and are definitely heavier (which doesn''t bother me since I don''t spend any time in the park). Overall, I would have to say that the Flow system has been a great purchase that has exceeded my performance expectations. None Bought these as replacements for original FL-11s from about 5 years ago. The old ones were still working fine, but alas were stolen. :( The new FL-11s work just as well if not better. The backplate lever is a little easier to snap up and it is now easier to adjust forward lean through a simple little dial on the backplate. Foot sheaths still take a while to dial in, but once dialed, you can forget about them. One minor criticism is that if you want to change angles you have to unstrap the sheath and put it back again. Positives are that there are no pressure points like in strap bindings, IMHO the fit is better, more stable and precise, and they are super fast to get into. I''m finding that I can get locked in while starting to ride down the hill! Super Sweet! Another minor criticism is that the width the binding takes across the board is big. I have fairly agressive angles (35,30) and the gas pedal is almost hanging over the edge of the board - this is with Large FL-11s and a Burton Cascade (which is in fact a little narrower than most boards). I don''t like to have toe or heel overhang because I like to lay it down in turns, so your mileage may vary on the sizing issue. I can dig trenches with these bindings and yet can mix it up in the bumps, air etc. as well. The asym sheaths work extremely well for freeriding and are very ergo. Very good edge to edge control and power transfer with very little slop (which can be adjusted for in the foot sheaths if you want). Overall, extremely satisfied and cannot even think about going back to strap bindings much less sloppy step-ins! The fact that a pair of these "step in hybrids" have lasted 5 seasons without any slop tells you you can stop worrying about replacing your bindings every 2 seasons. Similar Products Used: Too many strap bindings to count. My wife rode on OSin stepins for 1 season and they developed so much slop in that time that they were basically unusable. |
