I did a lot of web research and talking to a lot of snowshoers, and finally decided on the Yubashoes Cariboo. The heel bungee is tough to pull on, exhausting really, but I never fell out. I have only tested them on icy, crusty snow, but they didn't slip, and the asymmetrical design made walking natural.
