I used this backpack for a week trip in the Grand Canyon. It did wonders. The comfortability level of the backpack is extraordinary. However, it does not hold as many things as other types of backpacks. Also, there are very few pockets.

had my palisade for 4 years. about 100 days of mountain hikking...smokies, yellowstone, glacier and ole flat florida. a great pack. carries good load comfortably. dont like it but i ussually end up with 55-60 lbs. like the location and access to water bottles. have added two side pockets which are great for sandals and crampons. broke once in yellowstone but was able to go on for 7 more days with repairs

i really like this pack and it is holding up well which i think is a trait of the gregory line.

Customer Service

I bought the 97-98 model year pack used at A16 pretty cheap. I was worried about purchasing a used pack, but it was still in good shape so I thought, what the heck. The pack has turned out to be really terrific. I've carried anywhere from 40-50lbs and it always feels significantly lighter. I particularly like how adjustable it is. I find myself adjusting the pack slightly as I walk depending on the terain. Like I might off-weight my shoulders while going steeply uphill, buy cinch down my shoulders when ambling down hill to keep it more tightly controlled.
All in all... great pack, no complaints!

I have been, except intermittently, an external frame backpack loyalist. My two main packs have been Dana Design's Longbed and Terraframe. External load-haulers. Recently, I found myself wanting an internal for more off trail hikes over very rocky terrain in the desert of the southwest. I've had the Palisade for roughly 2 months, but in that time have taken it out a dozen times. Extremely comfortable, well made, with nothing at all to complain about. I'm thinking that this may well become my "everywhere" pack as I am that pleased with it. As for the weight of the pack itself, I consider this to be inconsequential as the suspension is well designed, transfering the bulk of the weight where it should be, and at the same time fully able to handle the occasional 50lb. load. Great pack, has lots of features and takes alot of abuse without giving. Only complaint is that the suspension strap are a bit stiff, the Dana Designs conform a little better, but other than that I wouldn't trade it.

The perfect pack for me. Its ideal for everything from weekend quickies to extended trekking. The suspension and harness are significantly better than anything else I've carried. The construction seems to be solid after a few years of hard use. No rips, tears, or anything else of the sort. The daypack on top is a great touch. I even use it as luggage.

Has one of the best fits for my large frame (6'3" ~250#). Comfortable and well balanced with good back ventilation. The empty weight of the pack is a little high and the water bottle holder is usable on when in camp.

I have owned this pack for approximately 5 years and I want to say that I will never purchase another pack. I tend to abuse gear, and have used this pack on long backpacking trips from Georgia to New York to the Smokies and an entire summer of abuse in Glacier National Park. I haven't seen a single sign of weakness in any of the material, and it rides perfectly. It feels like home on my back. I have never carried a Dana frame pack, and I have heard great things, but Gregory is absolutely among the best. I would more than recommend it to anyone from novice to extreme mountaineer.
