I am 5' 10", 155lbs. The Gregory Shasta fits me perfectly. I typically carry 50 lbs (more weight = more exercise right?). I haven't owned it for that long so I can't comment about long term durability. However, the fit and comfort is great. I would give it a 5, but I don't have a lot to compare it to.

Finally got my Gregory after renting one several years earlier. Extremely pleased with adjustability and comfort. Pack is fairly 'no-frills' which allows for customizing. Added Gregory Pocket and some shock cord loops.
Gregory rain cover is exceptional! Kept my stuff dry in a blinding tropical Florida cloudburst with sideways blowing rain!
The pack is so comfortable I am encouraged to go out more often.

Recently bought the Shasta. With a couple of overnight backpacking trips logged, this backpack responded well. Rests on the hips with much comfort. Plenty of room. Could use more outside pockets. The load controls adjustments are great. The option to transfer the weight from shoulders to hips or anything in between is huge. Very comfortable pack.

Good, simple pack that I got relatively cheap. Holds alot and can be customized with Gregory add-on pockets. Very stable, although the hip-belt is hard and wears on you on high mileage days. I would recommend this pack if you're not paying full price.

I love my pack... I have the previous model Shasta with even fewer bells and whistles than the current one! I got a great deal (USD170 I think). I've since added a water bottle holster and external webbing pocket (the groovy one which allows you to stuff things behind it too). The pack is beautifully made and sooo comfortable with great adjustability to shift weight from shoulders to hips and so on. It's also very flexible - it rides fine when underpacked and also has a good skirt on the top to allow overstuffing for those times when 88 liters is not enough!

I tried on a couple of Dana Designs packs but I don't like their harness as much (it's a personal thing - make sure you go and try before you buy)

Excellent pack. The suspension and load adjustments make it totally comfortable even on those long days. The contour of the padding and stays make it a perfect fit on day one. I like the simple design of the bag (I don't like alot of side pockets and stuff hanging off my load). The detachable top fanny pack is great for day trips to the top. I've had mine for two years and will probably never buy another pack. If I could change one thing, I would make it lighter, but for more money, Gregory has that too.

I've used a Kelty internal, a Jansport internal, and a Northface internal in the past. The Gregory outcomforts them all.

I bought the Shasta several years ago and I have enjoyed it immensely. I have customized mine so it is more user friendly. Easy to pack and hold more than I can use if I am gone for 7+days. This is one pack that I am not tired of at the end of the day. Usually on discount at Campmor so the value is even better.

Great pack. Fits like a glove.

I have lower back problems and have been able to adjust the cant on the hip belt to fit my back. Amazing. No more pain, no more welts.

Carries the load well. well made, no broken seems, waterproof, bombproof. So far i have had this pack two seasons and have been very happy with it.

Only thing is that it lacks outside pockets and that the straps cut into my shoulder/arms, cutting circulation.
