Love this pack.. I especially like the sleeping bag compartment and the extra tie downs. I can't fill this up enough for long trips. Used in on a cross country drive to all national parks and worked great for day and over night trips..

One of the first is still one of the best. This is one of the first really comfortable packs that came out on the market, and it still holds its own against newer designs. Huge, easily accesible sleeping bag compartment. Comfortable hip belt. Rugged design. Can be packed wider than some other packs, allowing the center of gravity of the pack to be closer to body.

I've had this backpack for about 5 years, and have never been disappointed. It's extremely comfortable for short-medium duration hikes and works really well for longer trips when you'll be traveling by boat/plane/car/etc.

This is a good value pack, since this is stuff that really could drain your pocket if you want the best. (But even this cost some more bucks than others that probably work fine) This pack is well constructed, you dont have to throw everything out every time you need something that's at the very bottom as with my old McKinley ""let's-fall-apart-when-you-least-want-it""-pack...

I've had this pack for four years now and I have no complaints. It is an ideal pack for short, medium and long treks. I have taken this pack on three eight day trips and it was great and there was plenty of room. My friend has an external frame and I might have made him a convert based on what he has seen me do to my pack. There is unlimithed lashing spots on this pack. It is great.

I got this pack mostly (like many other packers as said in somone else's comments) because it was a good deal. My brother told me about it after seeing it on Sierra Trading Post's web site. We checked out the reviews (on this site) and it looked like a good bet.

We both got this pack and took it on our annual family backpacking trip. This year we went to the Eagle Cap wilderness area in Oregon and the packs performed flawlessly. Mine was loaded up between 50 and 60 pounds and felt great the whole 7 miles and 2000 feet up. There was plenty of room for everything I needed (and some extra stuff for other people). The pack is tough and quite waterproof. We had to hike out the last night in a heavy lightning and rainstorm, and all the stuff I had in my pack that wasn't wet before I put it in stayed dry.

My bro had his pack stuffed so full it looked like it was going to pop but it held together. His tent got pretty soaked before he was able to stuff it in his pack (the storm came up so fast it was scary) and the water added quite a bit of weight. But he said it was comfy all the way out.

It took us 6 hours to hike out in the dark on a slippery and sometimes tortuous trail, but after taking my pack off my hips and shoulders hardly felt like they had been carrying a big pack for all that time. The hipbelt on my pack (I think it was the 98 or 99 model?) is so beefy that the pack rides like luxury car. The lumbar pad is very generously padded and comfortable as well.

The built-in hydration system was great as I'm sure other users of such systems know. No stopping to get out the water bottle and take a swig -- the bite valve from the hydration pack is right there and you can drink as you walk.

The shoulder harness has this great adjustment system so it can fit people of differing heights -- it is very easy to adjust.

If you can get one of these, even at full price, it's a good deal. For the price I paid, it was a fantastic one.

Like many of the other reviewers, I got mine at a discount (REI sells off their returned merch at a sizable discount - mine was pristine and about $75). I would take the time to hunt this pack down and buy it at less than $100. Worth much more than that. I added the REI side pockets after stitching on web straps (to the pockets), and later a large REI back pocket that is attached with velcro. I have used this pack to comfortably carry loads in the 70# range. Pack has been used in almost every condition. I love this pack. I'm now in my 50's and have owned many, many packs. This is my favorite.

I used this pack for a little more than a year. It's durable and constructed well, but there are much better packs available. The problem areas for me were 1)no outside pockets, 2)no compression straps/load carriers on the sleeping bag section (to hold a sleeping pad), 3)no daisy chain, 4)no decent outside water bottle holder, and finally,5) a less than ideal hip belt.

It took me several trips realize all this. I tried on some Gregory Adventure Series packs with weight and was struck by the incredible difference in comfort. To address all the problems I mentioned above, I've ordered a Gregory Palisade. Only $210 at Campmor. My Lowe is now at a sports consignment store.

Very good pack. Very durable. Easily accessable. Very large, maybe too large for two or three days. Very comfortable, but there are a select few that are a little better ie. Osprey, Dana.

This pack is typical of Lowe's other packs--solid, bombproof construction with no unnecessary frills. Very comfortable suspension system on it, with simple adjustments. Very durable construction that looks like it will last a lifetime. I've had mine for four years of abusive hiking and it still looks new. A steal for the price when compared to other packs that cost twice as much!
