I think that the Asolo AFX 520 GTX boots are just about eqivalent to toting around a pair of cast iron bear traps on my feet. My precious little tootsies could not bear more than a mile of plush walking on the sand. Even cramming marshmallows in the toebox could not prevent the inevitable blisters induced by these monstrocities of footwear. But I got them a Big Lots for 20 buck, so I can't complain too much. I give them a five.

I have the 520 GTX's. I'm happy with these boots although they took several months of weekend use to break in. During the break in period I did get several blisters on my right heel only (never the left). Now that i've had them for over a year, they are extremely comfortable, and I really like them. I havent had any blisters since the break in period. They probably have about 300 miles on them now, and quality and durability seems good so far. No matter what boot you buy, make sure the fit is correct when using the socks you plan on wearing them with (duh) or you'll hate even the best shoe made. Pick out a brand/style of socks before buying the boots if possible. (I like Thorlo) Also, try a pair of superfeet insoles.

I have pair of these that I bought eight years ago. I have taken them out on numerous week long backpacking trip and never had a problem until my last one where the sole started to come off, but after eight years of rugged use you can't complain about that. These boots fit like a glove and I only blistered my feet once. I would buy another pair but these boots are still in great condition. But I did buy a heavy duty boot to replace them on long treks. Happy Trails.

I would not buy these boots again. The reason? Well, not because they weren't a great boot. After five years of use the stitching on the upper came loose. I e-mailed Asolo to see what I could do. The customer service rep's reply was so snippy and unhelpful that I vow never to buy from Asolo again.
