I bought them 7 yrs. ago when they were One-Sport and have beat the hell out of them since I've owned them (they have the battle scares to prove it). They took little break in and proved themselves to be rock solid under a heavy pack (65+lbs) over rough terrain. They are heavy but Totally Bomb proof (consider lighter boots for day hikes or lighter loads)! They've never leaked once, even though the heaviest down pours or standing in streams. I like to apply a Nickwax nubuck treatment and keep them clean. If I ever manage to wear them out I will definitely get another pair!

I actually have the One Sport Moraines which are the exact same boot, only a name change. In short, I love them! A very rugged mid- weight boot that required almost no break-in time what so ever. I do have to put a bit of moleskin on the sides of my big toes though but I would attribute that to my tender tootsies. I find the best way to waterproof the is by slightly warming them in a warm oven and giving them a generous coat of sno-seal; then warm them again to allow the seal to absorb into the pores of the nu-buck leather. I have yet to get wet feetAnd I do live on the ""wet coast""! I would reccommend the Moraine AT however because they have a high rubber rand on the toe that takes care of the abrasion problem that I have. A great boot for rough or off trail use when carrying a heavy pack.

I actually don't care for the color...it tends to bleed, but that is common with other boots.

I was very surprised that there was virtually no break in time for these boots. They are super comfortable very waterproof. Bombproof boot. Compared to other full leather boots that I have tried, these blow them all away. Great for long multi day trips as well as day trips. In rugged terrain they provide excellent traction and have plenty of stability.

I bought these boots in the Winter/spring of 1997 and got comfortable use from them for one season in which I hiked about 250-300 miles. By the middle of the next season The leather was cracking (even with weekly cleaning/leather treatment) and water came in through the toe box WAAYY to easily. For a $200 boot made for rough hiking they should last longer than 2 seasons and 600 miles. I took them back to REI and got my money back and got Makalu's instead.

First of all, this review is independent of how well these boots fit me. To me, fit is so variable from person to person that it is meaningless to rate boots on how well they fit ME I think the Moraine's are very well made. I've hike about 400 miles in them, mostly in the Sangre de Cristo Mts. in northern New Mexico. Their waterproffness is fantastic. I followed the manufacturer recommendations for treating the boots, and have had zero problems with water. They are also very durable. Mine have all kinds of scuffs and scratches, but the leather is so thick that it doesn't matter. These boots are the only significant piece of gear I own that I don't worry about failing. I beat the hell out of these, and they work fine. These soles have worn well also. Moraine's take a little while to break in. For me, they weren't exactly ""comfy"" right out of the box. They are much better now. As far as I can see, one improvement I would suggest would be to have a higher rubber rand around the toe. They're pretty knicked up near the toe. These boots weigh about 4 pounds. When and if these boots wear out, I'd prefer some lighter weight boots. If you value durability, waterproofness, and good ankle support, these would make great boots.

like most people here, i bought these when they were called one sport. that was 5 years ago and i still love them. i worked for a summer wading in ak streams, and never felt a drop unless i topped 'em. the double tongue adjustment is really nice. totally water tight without gore tex (as a good boot should be) but i still treat them every now and again. if these ever wear out, i'll get the new montrails (hope the quality hasn't changed with the name)...

I bought a pair of these several years ago (when One Sport)... I've used them for everything from Mountaineering to multi-day Desert backpack trips. They have performed wonderfully. Natural, easy break-in. These boots take a MAJOR beating for years and keep going strong!!

I own the One Sport version and use them for extremely rocky and rugged terrrain backpacking. They have never let me down, with great support and dry, warm and blister free feet. Definitely too heavy for day hikes and light loads. But when the going get rough, call out these boots.
