Great stove, lots of power, burns gas effeciently. Very loud. When melting snow, I have noticed that this stove is surprisingly easy to put out when accidentally dumping snow or water on it -- I think this is because the body shape funnels water towards the flame. Although it is finicky, it packs a punch that is essential when melting snow. I wouldn't use this for simple backpacking. |

This is the best high altitude stove on the market. Yes it is very loud when in operation, but who cares, when you are at 15000 feet. It heats fast and easly maintained. Similar Products Used: The whisper light is also a good choice for backpacking. I would not take it to a high elevation however... |

Great Stove! I wish the fuel line was flexible like the Whisperlite series but I guess you'd lose some stability since it makes use of the fuel bottle as a support. As far as simmering, it can easily be done. Use as little pressure as possible in the fuel bottle and turn it way down. You will think its going to go out but will stay on and simmer for hours. WE bought a MSR X-GK stove in 1988 in preparation for 12 months travel around the world. During a trek around the Annapurnas in Nepal the MSR did really well, running on Kerosene or Petrol. WE boiled up snow at the top of Thorang La Pass ( 17,000 ft) in no time at all. We also used this stove all around Europe, and had an amazing lamb casserole on night in the Yorkshire Dales... threw in a few pieces of fresh lamb, carrots and onions plus a packet of onion soup and let the billy simmer for 60 minutes ( Yes ... you can simmer with this stove ) I pulled the stove out prior to Christmas, after 8 years of storage, lubricated the seals and fired it up again. My son and I used it in the NZ High country with no problems whatsoever. Its lightweight and fuel efficent ( A full fuel bottle of kero lasted us 5 days, with plenty to spare ) Well done MSR... you guys build stoves that LAST. Similar Products Used: None |

This is a good stove for melting snow or for foods that only require boiling, because Customer Service Never needed anything MSR built repaired. Similar Products Used: MSR Whisperlite-My Favorite |

Great stove! will burn almost any fuel like a jet engine. easy to light and keep light. Customer Service Only problem I don't care for is that you can't adjust the flame that easy. either it is full on or off. |

I have used the MSR multi fuel stoves for the last 13 years and there just doesn't seem to be any stove out there to match it's reliability and ability to crank up the heat when you need it.Only broken part was on the pump(field Repaired),and it still worked great.I have used many other stoves and there is nothing that can touch it for full blown heat. Customer Service Maintenance kits are available at a reasonable cost. Similar Products Used: Whisperlight |

great stove only problem I have had is that it has limited adjustability if you try to do anything but boil water. Similar Products Used: None |

An excellent workhorse stove for boiling or boiling... Very reliable, very fast to heat, but not very adjustable: just go go go. I've had mine almost 20 years, rebuilt it once and had almost no problems (other than what led to the rebuild, while pre-trip testing). It is stable, burns all kinda fuel and is simple to use. Watch out for the hot base -- do not use this on the floor of your tent in a storm unless you want to ice fish through the hole later... Customer Service -none. Similar Products Used: --Coleman Peak One stove: leaky, hard to use, a real mistake (1982 vintage) --Primus backpacker stove: a decent little rig, but in a much lower league than the MSR's --MSR Whisperlite: lighter, more adjustable, perfect if you don't need the international fuel capacity. |

It is extremely well make stove. Hot, easy to lit up but extremely noisy(sound like a jet engine). Easy to maintain and durable but the small metal base is a problem to larger pot and the base is not well insulated. The metal base can be hot enough to burn anything in contact below. A add-on metal base(either from MSR or a home-made one)is really necessary. No simmer control is a negative but the Dragonfly is for those who prefer it. Similar Products Used: None |
