A great piece of engineering. very light, stability is fine. fast boiling in all conditions, high, low hot or cold. I've been kicking myself for all those years with white gas stoves, Svea, MSR, Peak 1 etc... What a pain in the butt those things are: fuel spills, heavy canisters, heavy stoves, wasted time trying to get the flame right, fuel flareups and fires (yikes!) blah blah blah. For anything short of a 14 day trip (where white gas's higher btu value per pound makes a difference) you should have your head examined if you continue to use a white gas stove.

I bought the Extreme in August and so far it works great. Easy to light and use. Fuel tanks are easy to pop on on off and don't have to mess with pouring liquid fuel.

If shopping for a stove, I would strongly consider this one. It is easier to use and less bulky than my big two burner Colman stove.

Amazingly simple, reliable, efficient stove! I have read some reviews here by unhappy users. They must have gotten lemons and need to return them for working stoves. I had used an Optimus for the past 25 years, with occasional experience with friends' MSR's, Peak 1's, Gaz's etc. I took a chance on the Xtreme after recomendation and couldn't be happier with its performance. Lights right up, flame adjusts to exact needs, no spilled or leaky fuel, folds up to a small package, lighter than my little Optimus, fuel cannister smaller and lighter than my white gas bottle, tripod base very stable, tripod pot holder also stable, and the cannisters are as recyclable as beer cans. The only surprising thing about this is that its sold by Coleman. But that makes fuel easy to find.

I purchased my Xtreme last year - have used it in sub-freezing temps, and above 10,000 ft. Absolutely no problems. First time I used it, another hiker on the trip was using his Whisperlite, spilled fuel, had problems pressurizing his system. I was drinking my hot chocolate before he got his to light. Crushable fuel cannisters are wonderful. I used this stove to cook for four of us on a 6 day Sierra hike - boil water, make pancakes, SIMMER ANYTHING, ALWAYS LIGHTS !! One thing they don't tell you is that the fuel cannisters have a siphon tube inside of them - this stops the problem of high altitude and low tempeture problems associated with other iso/propane stoves.

A great stove. It's very light, boils water faster than any I've seen -- a nice hot flame. (I've NEVER seen a stove yet that boils water as fast as the manufacturers claim) The instant flame (versus priming of white gas) is very nice. Plus the flame control is outstanding. We cooked pancakes (very low heat) in the High Uintas here in Utah and we couldn't have had better results at home! Buying the fuel canisters is of course the only drawback, but they last a LONG time.

The stove I have owned to date. While the fuel could be more plentiful, I have never had a problem finding fuel or operating the stove in all types of weather. While my friends are priming their stoves I attach the fuel canister "flick my bic" and start cooking! No hassle no leaky fuel bottles. It's great. Mt only reservation would be an international trip (which I couldn't afford anyway) and the availability of the fuel canisters.

Well the only drawback that I have found with this stove is the fact that the fuel is hard to come by. I wouldn't recommend depending on it for a long distance (multi-week) trip unless you can carry a lot of fuel. Beyond that this stove does it all. It simmers with the best of them. I have used it in slightly below zero weather with no performance lost. Making pancakes with this is the definition of simple, just set nice and low and cook away.

Would get 5 stars but the fuel problem is a real problem.

Excellent. I have had the stove over 3 years, dozens of trips, in all kinds of weather, and has never let me down. It is light, fast, easy, and fun. My buddies are always bringing their own stoves to use and cant belive how much better the Xtreme is than theirs. I only wish they would come out with a small lantern to use with the fuel canisters.

I have had this stove for about 4 years and used it in all seasons at temperatures down to zero. It has only failed me once and that was with the connection to the fuel bottle. I took it apart and put it back together again and it was ok. The fuel bottles are a little hard to get especially the small ones. EMS sold me the stove then stopped stocking the fuel bottles but did say they would order them for me if I wanted them to. However, Wall*Mart carries the large ones at a much better price. Cooking on this stove is a breese. I have been able to set it up, cook my meal and clean up while those with MSR stoves are still getting theirs going with flames licking the top of the lean-to! If one can get past the throw away culture of the fuel bottles then this is a fantastic stove. I really like mine as it lights every time and the fuel bottle gives full heat right down to the last gasp of fuel. I took an 8 day trip in the 100 mile wilderness on the AT in Maine with one large bottle and had fuel left to spare! Buy it you'll like it!

i bought this stove right after it came out. i used it on 2 weekend trips and a week long trip. it kept going out after lighting, and after finally warming up and staying lit i could smell unburned gas at higher output levels. this could be a great stove but it needs more development time.

Customer Service

havn't dealt with the manufacture. when i took it back to REI and told them i thought it was horrible, no problem. they gave me my money back.
