I love mine, its easy to set up, use, and I've had no problems with it. The only heads up would be about the reflector, watch out its sharp on the edges and it'll get you.

Excellent stove, served me well for many trips. Last weekend the connecting tube failed just in front of the valve. Took it apart and under the s.s. braid I found the plastic tubing cracked open. It cracked where it had a crease from being bent to store in my quart size pot. If yours easily folds over in this area, be advised it won't be an easy trailside fit to get it going again if it develops a leak. I like the stove enough to still recommend it, but would not trust one if the connecting hose has any area that folds over easily. I have used it on several week long winter trips with good results, it has replaced my wisperlight.

I bought the XTREME based on reviews. First trip out it failed and I was left without a stove (stove would start and flame would eventually go out). Luckily, I brought my old collapsable rack so I cooked over open fires (just like in the 70's). Sent the unit into Coleman for repair and they sent me a brand new unit within 2 weeks. Have been using it for 2 years now and LOVE IT. I also bought the repair kit in case I have any more problems on the trail. I've been packing since 1966 and have tried many different stoves over the years and this one is the best. High altitude, freezing temperatures, it's as solid as a rock. I've not experienced any problems finding fuel and I like the no muss, no fuss aspects of the stove. Totally adjustable flame with constant pressure right down to the last drop of fuel.

I just got the stove yesterday... REI delivered it nice and fast as they usually do with. I was surprised to see that the stove is made in the good ol' USA. The stove seems light enough and compact. It comes in a convenient carying bag. I fired the stove up and test boiled just over a cup of water in a matter of a few SHORT minutes... I was surprised at just how fast this things cooks... the controls seemed idiot proof too.... the flame is easily controlled.

Pro's:
Made in the USA
Decent weight
Easily controlled flame
It was on sale

Con's:
The aluminum legs seem to be crudely cast... not really bad but not as nice as others I've seen.
The fuel bottles are one-use this may prove expensive over time.
It must be lit with a match or lighter... and it's almost awkward although not difficult at all, A piezo lighter would be nifty.

Customer Service

None really although I just ordered the new lamp that uses the same fuel as this stove... it seems to be backordered til the second coming of Christ.... (from Coleman)

This stove is unbelievable!!! It's light as a feather, it has amazing BTU output and its fuel never dies even when the temperatures are well above freezing. I highly recommend this stove to anyone who is looking for a serious backpacking stove.

Well built, stable base. Large nob to control fuel flow. Creates a blast furnace to heat your food! Seems reliable and the cans are alum which can be crunched to save pack space when you carry out your garbage.

Good stove. I got mine immediately after they came out based on some reviews I'd read. I haven't been dissapointed. Good cold weather/high altitude (up t0 12,000 feet anyway) performance. You can recycle the fuel bottles. Good fuel efficiency. Blow torch to simmer. I like canister stoves but was always disappointed in the high altitude/cold weather performance, not anymore. Buy this stove.

I purchased the Xtreme soon after they came out. The first thing I did to test its "cold-weather performance" claims was to put the fuel bottle in deep freeze over night. In the morning, I attached it to the stove and it fired up instantly. I am a student and leader in wilderness studies and used my stove heavily for two years. Its flame control, ease of operation, extreme cold operation and recycleable bottles make it among the best I've ever seen or used.
After two years of use, however, the plastic (better material could be used) coupling to the fuel bottle wore out and it became difficult to create a proper seal. This was not a safety issue, it just made it hard for the stove to draw enough fuel.
Customer service was prompt and Coleman sent me a replacement without any major problems. I look forward to using it for at least another two years. I have learned that very little rotation is needed to secure the fuel bottle to the coupling and suspect that my over-powering it contributed to its failure.
I would recommend this stove to anyone and suspect that the terrible reviews of it are MSR ringers. They are rightfully worried, Coleman has a winner.

Customer Service

Very professional and prompt. There was a brief mix-up and they sent me the wrong stove initially, (may have been my fault), but one phone-call gotan Xtreme rushed to me before I even shipped the mistake product back.
I am thrilled that a company with as much an "Old-School" image as Coleman, has created such a great product. I hope they continue with this trend.

The extreme has proved to be an invaluable piece of backpacking equipment. It has only failed me once because of an inoperative fuel bottle. It seems the fuel bottle had a fault valve. REI was quick to provide a replacement. Besides that minor mishap, this stove boils faster than any stove i've used before. And the smaller fuel bottle lasts a good 2-3 meals. In relative comparison to the Xpert, the Xtreme has some 1000 more BTUs but isn't quite as stable. In all, the Xtreme has proved a worthwhile buy.

I had this stove for quite a while (ever since it came out). This stove has so far performed supurbly. I had no problem with it (e.g. exploding with shrapnels, burning erratically with the things around it etc.) I had replaced my aging and MSR whisperlite. The MSR broke on me in the field (it just didn't want to light any more!) I replaced every piece on the pump assembly, since this was the problem, but it just wouldn't get any pressure! I replaced it with this model and so far, no problems. My only grip is that putting the canisters took some manipulating and that the legs don't lock into place. This could be a problem (fixed in the newer ones??). However, I never had any problems with the above mentioned. I've been to the Sierras (above 10,000 feet) and so far, it lights every time. Used it at least 4 times a year.

Customer Service

I replaced my Whisperlight with this model at REI. I couldn't believe that the salesman was blaming me for not knowing how to use it! I used it for 6 years and he said that I just don't take care of it. It was in prestine condition (of couse, after 4 years of years of use, as prestine goes). He said that he use it while moutaineering and had no problems. What does he think I have been doing above 10,000 feet with snow?
