Amazingly beautiful and super smart design with a result: the steadiest tent one can imagine.
Not the lightest also not the fastest to set up but storm and all weather proof for sure.

Overall, the best tent I have ever owned. Far superior quality compared to anything else that was on the market at the time I bought this tent. Purchased in the early '90s, this tent still performs flawlessly. Not the ideal tent for ultra light backpacking as it is a little on the heavier side for an ultra light tent. For a bombproof, weather tight, solo backpacking structure, it cannot get any better. This tent is almost twenty years old and I just used it last week. It's too bad moss sold off their tent designs in the late 90's, the Moss tent name has since changed hands 3 times and now does not exist... what a shame. MSR and REI now incorporate the original Moss design features in a few of their tents but nothing has come close to the original tents that came from Moss in Camden Maine.

I bought this tent in late 1999 or early 2000. I bought it becuase I didn;t know ANYTHING about tents. First time out I hated it. It's small and setup is a pain, even with the clips. It's way to heavy (over 8 lbs) and bulky compressed. I just took it out after over 5 years since I one and only time used it. Same mess setting up. No wonder REI sold Moss to MSR? I was looking at MSR tents but seeing that they have Moss design infuence rethought my decision. Pure junk.

I've had my Starlet for 4 years and it has been used quite a lot. The tent still looks and acts like it is brand new - no leakage, zippers work perfectly and the floor is waterproof. The materials are top rate, particularly the nylon and the coating used for the floor and fly. The tent is slightly heavier than some "ultralight" hiking designs but I suspect they don't last nearly as long nor would they be as watertight.

The tent is a fairly snug fit for two people but it is extremely secure. The small footprint can make the difference in letting you set up in a sheltered space and in crowded conditions. It is one of the most weather-resistant designs around, very good considering it only has two poles. I suspect the low and very aerodynamic profile contributes a lot to this.

The vestibule is on the small side of things but does have enough space for your boots and some Goretex coats. All in all, an excellent design and well worth the price.

Moss' service is excellent - I needed some new little strings for pegging the fly down and they sent them to me in a couple of days.

I bought the '99 model of this tent and hated it - I sent it back and got a Walrus Terramoto(haven't used yet). The Moss tent was heavy and too small for 2 people-tiny! and very little storage space inside. The vestible is very small and was hard to get in and out of. Also the stargazing window was really small. I think it is an expensive tent, i got mine on clearance for $250 - not worth it in my opinion. I also had condensation build up even with a window slightly cracked open. I did look at the 2000 model and it is much nicer- larger inside, more storage space, and big stargazing mesh BUT in my opinion not worth the $370. I have set up my Walrus and inside is roomy with very nice stargazing windows and bigger vestibule, not to mention a little lighter, plus it was $250 and a 4 season capable tent(so they say). I have researched many tents and i believe you get more for your money in walrus.

I've had this tent since the late '80,s and it's proven to be an excellent performer. It is easy to pitch and I have never had it leak on me, even in horrendous downpours. It's advertised as a two person tent, but you would have to be very good friends with your tent mate. It is really comfortable for just one. The screened roof is excellent for warm summer nights. You can lay back and stargaze and keep the skeeters at bay. Highly recommended.

Lately bought one of the last starlets around. I didn't think I needed it, and the price was a bit steep (even on sale). Never been happier with a spur of the moment purchase than this. Strong as hell for a 2 pole tent. Slightly heavy for a 1+ person shelter, but absolutely indestructo. My significant other and I fit, but she's the only other person I'd let that close. Hope Moss can keep up the quality with the change in ownership...

Bought the Starlet 7 years ago and it's still going strong after treks through the Yukon, Alaska, Patagonia, New Zealand Alps and the Australian ourback. I've never seen a tent weather the Yukon blasts like this one -- it was rock solid under a heavy spring snowfall and even Southern Hemisphere winds couldn't rock it. Light, easy to pitch, and completely weatherproof. A true star.

Very expensive tent but Moss puts excellent workmanship in all of their tents..a little on the heavy side but great for winter camping...I like clips better because much faster but these sleeves are larger than in cheaper tents;I hike mostly Grand Canyon and this is a little more than I like to carry

I am actually submitting a review of the larger older-brother of this tent. The Superdome. I felt compelled to write a review of this tent after a hellish night in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The temperatures were -20 degrees and the winds were gusting well past hurricane force (official numbers had the peak gusts at 90mph). My climbing partner and I set up the Superdome in a small clearing along the ride between Mt Eisenhower and Mt Pierce. Although actually below treeline, the funnel effect of the valley focused the wind and snow right over us. This tent held up like a ROCK. It is much bigger than the Starlet, and has four poles rather than two, but it looks similar. The vestibule was plenty large for heating water for tea, and there was enough floor space to allow for some movement within the tent. I have seen nearly every tent out there, and Moss tents are by far the best.
