I've work as a guide/instructer and have tried the Trango 2 on two occassions spending a total of 19 days in it.
Pro's
The durability is impeccible. It's certainly waterproof and it has lots of storage space inside to keep your gear in order.

Con's
CONDENSATION, The first time I used it was during a 9 day wintercamping trip where temps were down to -5 not counting windchill. Every morning I woke up to having iscicles fall in my face and more than 50% of the inner tent roof was covered in ice. Not acceptible considering that I slept with the door open for additional ventilation and was alone in a 2 man tent!
The second trip was milder but condensation was still a problem.

The other issue is space. I'm 5'10 and I barely fit in it lengthwise... The width is great however.

Like others have said, it does weigh in on the heavy side.

All considered, I'm heading out into the backcountry in a few days for another 9 day trip. The Trango will stay at home...

Used it for 5 weeks during summer in NZ. It was awesome. Just open up all the ventilation and it gets reasonably cool. Stayed near Arthurs Pass where the winds sent other tents flapping while the Trango stayed taut - slept like a baby. Plenty of gear lofts to stash your mags and crap.

I have owned a number of tents over the years and I would have to say that I am most happy with the Trango 2. This is truly a tent that can do it all. It sets up quickly and easily, utilizes interior space like non other with its mesh stowage pockets and gear hammock and sufficient vestibule. I have used this tent on Mount Washington and in the Sandwich Mountain Range in New Hampshire in all kinds of conditions and this tent has handled most of what the New Hamphsire winters can dish out. Even without the fly guylines set this tent is rugged and sturdy. All tabs and seams are reinforced, the washtub floor is laminated and seam sealed at the factory. The floor seam is high enough up out of the snowpack to keep things dry inside where there is plenty of room for two or one person plus gear. The UVX window is a great addition to spy on early morning weather conditions or just to check out the stars on a clear night. The Ventilation was very good in the winter though a bit stuffy in the summer months. Just keep the fly of and at the ready and the heat should be no problem. It takes only a few minutes to set the fly up should foul weather move in. It has been mentioned that the Trango 2 is a bit heavy, and I would agree (tipping the scales at about 9.5 lbs.), but for a two man, 4 season tent this is hardly an unreasonable load to hump. Despite the hefty price tag on this tent, I have gotten more than my money's worth hunkered down in this bomshelter when the winds started to kick. I place no price on peace of mind and a sense of security while in the high country. Bottom Line: If you are in the market for a bomb proof do it all shelter, I would recommend this tent in a heartbeat.

Looking for a comfortable FOUR season tent that will let you sleep peacefully in severe wind, rain or shine? I recommend this one. Pro's: 1)Superior comfort. After you've used the abundant storage spaces and looked through those windows, other tents are awful without it! 2)Sturdy. I usually dont guy it out, cause it NEVER flaps around in wind. Guy it out fully and use the INTERNAL guy system - it is absolutely rocksolid. 3)Waterproof. Without a doubt. 4)Ventilation. Two mesh DOORS and a vent in the roof. Able to increase space between tent body and fly. Comfortable even in an African summer! 5)Quality. Easton aluminium poles, YKK zippers, strong hooks and clips, seam sealed everywhere. Free tube of seam sealant included. There are no cheap looking parts anywhere. 6)Design. Two vestibules, two entrances, doors dont hang on the ground. 7)Weight. It isnt single wall, it isnt superlight, it is quality. "Cons": 1)Clip system. Puts strain on a few points. Can never get the seams to line up properly with the poles. Causes uneven tautness, pulls doors out of shape etc. Not as easy to set up. Hasnt caused ANY problems, I just dont like it. 2)Vestibule size. Could be more spacious. Rear one is for boots only. 3)Not cheap (because its not a cheapy) Bottom line: If you actually want to SLEEP through bad weather, you are gonna have to pay the money and carry the weight of this tent. I highly recommend it.

Great tent. People say it but it just is. It is a little heany, and it may condense a little. But this is an expedition/winter tent. It's made for high mountains and harsh conditions. My favorite bits. 1- It is a full sized 2 man. You could squeeze a third in in you need. 2- Great internal pocket/attic system. Tons of room to store. 3- Flat out confidence in performance. 4- Super look. Am I right or what? Style applies to this thing. I'm glad I bought it. It was in fact owrth the $$. I got the footprint free also.

I have the 2001 Trango 2 with two UVX windows. The windows are great for taking a look outside and its something really nice to look forward to during a rainstorm!

Strength: This tent can't get any stronger! With four poles and a half-hooped vestibule pole, it sheds wind, snow and rain like a champ. I hadn't even guyed out the tent and it was supersolid, and although it is clips, i find its better than sleeves because during extreme wind gusts it will flex a little and not place stress on the tent! The hooped pole for the vestibule is great too, and plenty strong! There are 14 guy out points and each one has internal clips so that when you guy out the tent, you are using the poles of the tent and not just pulling on material!!

Ventilation: I wanted a tent that can do everything from summer canoe trips to winter above treeline mountaineering, and this tent fits my category perfectly!!! It has a roof vent and the doors can be screened for all the ventilation you can think of! In hot summer insect full weather in the humid Adirondacks, the tent was bone dry inside. If you want a full summer and winter tent!!! This is the one!!

Space: For 2 mountaineers, there is all the room you can ask for! The tent has huge pockets on the inside on both sides and 2 built in atticks called tension shelves! I had nalgene bottles and anything else you can think of stored in the pockets and this really organized the tent and gave us extra stretch room on the floor! I had attached a clothes line on the inside(instead of connecting in for internal guy-lines, i connected it a little different)and had all my wet and dampy clothes dry off during the night! The inside of the tent is lagre enough for 2 full down covered humans and there is even extra space to bring your pack inside! In terms of vestibule, there was no need to bring the packs inside because the front vestibule is plenty large enough to hold 2-4 packs!! The rear vestibule is smaller but when properly staked, you can stick a pack in there or plenty of room for 4 pairs of boots!! I had my K3 boots and my friends Asolo Quartz aswell as my hiking running shoes and some extra gear in the rear and it was nice and roomy to enter and exit, and the advantage of a smaller vestibule in the back makes it perfect for entering and exiting the tent without needing to crawl in!!

Quality/Features: The tent is the highest quality tent i have ever seen! Every possible feature is included in the tent, and you cant be dissapointed!

Weight: Everybody says this tent weighs too much!!! Strengthen up a little! I find this tent is perfect and can be turned into a light weigh tent (5 lbs) with the footprint poles and fly) and it sets up great in ultralight mode!! I find its great weight for the amount of room and strength you get, and i would be willing to carry the entire tent myself for solo trips! Split up the tent with 2 people! and your lightweight quest is over!

Thsi tent does cost a little extra, and i did get it at a good price, but i would definately pay full price for this tent!!

I had this tent at 14,000 feet this week just below the Mt. Whitney summit. the winds kicked up to 30 mph and a fiece hail and snow storm developed. I've got great pictures from it all. I put 3 people in this tent since one did not bring shelter. The three of us were actually reasonably comfortable but snug in this 2 man tent. It was rock-solid in that scary storm with lightning bolts cracking less than a quarter mile away. Not a drop of water got in and with the two vestibles, we were able to put three packs in the large one and cook in the smaller one. No mud entered the tent this way. No condensation at all was present even with 3 guys in below freezing temperatures that night. The windows made it nice to look out and watch the lightning. I give it a ten due to the rock solid construction and very tight pitch. The rainfly never touched the body even without the guy lines attached. The sewing is very precise. This tent was no saggy baggy one.

Customer Service

Overall the tent is bombproof and very safe . The only cons are that it is heavy and a little pricey but above timberline in extreme conditions you won't die in it.

Simply the best foul weather and cold weather tent i have ever had. Only drawbacks are it is too much tent for warm weather and it is quite heavy.

Customer Service

Mountain Hardwaear's customer service is superb. I have returned several items to them for repair due to tough use (not abuse) and they have come through every time. They are pleasant folks to talk to also and they all know their gear.

Absolutely bombproof tent-- used in major windstorms and the tent barely flaps (when fully guyed out). Great design and attention to detail. Clip system well thought out. Not the lightest tent (about 8+ lbs.) but well worth the weight. Highest recommendations.

The tent is far to heavy. When you guy it out and stake it down the door zipers snag. I can hever get the 2 black hooks on both poles. the vestibule pole does not set well and provides the perfect place for water or snow to gather.

Customer Service

The best I had a problem and they were more than helpful.
