I was dissapointed that the Rapeede was not a truly freestanding design. It MUST be staked in order to function properly. I could never get the rain fly to tension properly - suspect slightly off spec dimensions. Very watertight- even with an inch of water around it (it rained ALL NIGHT) no water got in! Ventilation was middle of the road. I don't think I would use this tent in 100+ degree temps with higher than 90 percent humidity. Quick to set up - a bit bulky in the pack but thin-ish. Some cat peed on mine the first day and the stain never came out! Eyech! I wish they were more stain resistant... Not really a 2 person tent - good thing I am small - 5-7 125 lbs and my friend is too. You are going to be cramped if you are bigger and or taller than that and want to share the tent. Unless you are ""real close""...

Its a squeeze for two people (men), OK for couples but all around better as a one person tent. Excellent in Rain, wind but vestibule area was somewhat confusing. Never quite figured out zippering scheme.Furhter, mosquito netting often got caught in zipper until it finally ripped. I have another Walrus tent which I have owned for over 15 years. So I really like the company but I had to return this one.

Customer Service

IN the past I have Walrus Service to be second to none. Their exceptional. But that was before they were bought out by REI.

Rapeede will keep you and your friend dry and warm in challenging weather. Air movement problems force you to find a balance between condensation and heat retention. Remember in COLD weather, you WANT moisture to evaporate, not condensate. I'll gladly trade a few degrees for a moisture free bag (and tent) in the morning. On a long hike in freezing weather, moisture in your bag increases poundage (NO!). Hey, they sacrificed ventilation for dryness. Dry=warm. Yes, it is smallish on inside room, but it is a light tent. I think they cut the right corners.

This is a really great tent for the money. It is also very light compared to most of the tents of it's size out there. It has been in Germany, Switzerland, Austria,France, Sweden and many US states. It is perfect for two. It does have a ventilation problem. I also wish the side rainfly straps/hooks were moved 6" forward and that the window was larger. I have the 97 98 model.

There are no tents similar. This tent has a very large vestibule, great pole design, water tightness, lightness, great price and packability.

No doubt about it, this is a very dry tent. We have used it in 3 absolute downpours, and spent 2 nights/days in a steady rain without a drop leaking in. I used it right out of the box with no seam sealer or voodoo incantations to help assure no leaks. The big down side is ventilation. I have the 99 model with the eyelid vents and if there is no breeze blowing up the foot of the tent it is a sauna! In below freezing weather you have to fiddle with the foot and head openings to get a balance between airflow and warmth. Even with the footprint it is prettly light and packable. The rapid hub system makes setup a no brainer and fast. Entry and exit is a bit low under the vestibule. All in all, dry counts for a lot and I'd gladly buy another, but I use an Arch Rival in July and August here in VA.

I love my rapeed 99, its a little to cosy for two people, at least by my standards. I fit in it nice with all my gear at my feet keeping my bag off the tent wall. it sets up fast (with practice)same goes for rolling it up. and gathers almost no condensation got it on sale for $150 regular $210 its a great price and weight for a four season tent.

Have used a Rapeede about 8-10 trips now in all kinds of weather and have found it to be bulletproof. It's light for a 4-season tent and sets up quick. It's rated as a 2-person tent, but they better know each other very well. It's really best as an all-weather one-person, which is what I use it for. My only negative cooment is that it doesn't breathe well in very hot weather, but they have improved that for '99 and have also slightly enlarged it. In cold, wet conditions, it has never let me down.

I've had my Rapeede for 3 years. It goes up so fast! It still amazes my friends. It sleeps two big guys just fine. I roll aroung alot and still don't bump the person next to me. I do get terrrrrible condensation on the inside of the fly. But this weekend we had a puddle under the tent but everything inside was dry. The light color always seems bright inside. I would love to see the improvements on the '99!! Great tent!

This is the tent for rain, no doubt about it. Even after four days in a steady rain I remained dry while my friends did not. The vestibule is huge! Setup is quick (

I really like this tent but have a few complaints. Mainly, the poles can't be seperated from the tent which means you can't lash the poles to you pack to save space and the tent is bulky when folded. Infact, the packed tent won't nearly fit sideways int the bottom of my pack and has to stand up straight. This costs room and accessibility to other gear. The other problem is that I can't keep the fly from lying flat against the side of the tent -- the new version has a support pole that crosses the midsection and may fix this problem. Other than this I love the tent. Mine came with a gear loft which was nice.

I have slept a few times in my friend's Sierra Night Watched -- very nice tent but much more expensive and heavy.
