Volkl Vertigo G3 energY All Mountain

Volkl Vertigo G3 energY All Mountain

DESCRIPTION

A great choice for skiers looking to explore the whole mountain, these skis are designed for all-conditions performance.. Volkl's energY technology uses chambers in the core to store energy as the ski flexes and then releases it as acceleration at the end of the turn. 3D Sidecut technology creates tip-to-tail contact the moment the ski is tipped on edge, resulting in even pressure over the length of the edge. These technologies give the skier more control and easier turn initiation for a better skiing experience.

I am a good skier 210 lbs that skis 40+ days a year in all conditions anywhere on the mountain, preferably steep and deep. I skied the 2001/02 Vertigo G3s for a few days mainly on powder and crud and felt they were an excellent ski on those surfaces. they float in powder and bust through crud. The G3s are just as good in crud and powder as the Vertigo G31s I normally ski but suffer a tad in comaparison to the G31s at mach speeds on hard pack. I have since acquired a pair of 2002/03 Vertigo G3s which are a little beefier than the previous G3s and feel they ski more like the G31 which is a better ski for some one my weight. all volmodels of the Vertigo were quicker edge to edge, livelier and more fun than the Rossi Bandit XX. Bandit XX seemed sluggish and hard to initiate at low speeds on hardpack but was almost as good in powder and crud. the only complaint I have on the vG3s is that I have no need for a twin tip and the twin tip design makes it hard to stick your skis in the snow outside the lodge. I skied the G31 at 193 cm and the G3s at 191 cm.

I originally purchased the the 2000 model Vertigo G31 (198cm) and found that it was an excellent ski for all over the mountain, powder, crud or hard pack. unfortunately the ski delaminated on a ski trip to Big Sky, as a result i demoed a 2001 model Vertigo G3 in the longest size they made (193cm)that ski also performed very well in most conditions but did not seem beefy enough for my 200 lb weight especially on hardpack. But the ski was very good on steep double black diamond crud. After the trip Volkl at no cost replaced the broken ski and gave me a new pair of 2002 model Vertigo G3s (193 cm) which were stiffer and more responsive than the previous model year G3. The skis are excellent in all conditions on any slope. the only gripes I have is that they turned the tails up like a twin tip which makes it difficult to stand the skis up in the snow when you take them off. also a little more length would be appreciated for real deep powder.

Customer Service

very good however if warranty service is needed. the return should be through the dealer where the ski was purchased. returns that are sent to volkl directly from the purchaser will usually be returne

I had not originally intended getting into the Volkl Vertigo G3. I had dropped into North Shore Ski & Board in North Vancouver looking to demo the latest Dynastar models, but the shop didn''t have any demos available. The shop recommended that I give the G3 a try, so I ended up spending the day skiing the Volkl instead. What a surprising ski! It really wants to fly. Very crisp feeling, light and quick. It really hooks up in the carve, very satisfying. I was interested in picking up a pair but the $599 price tag gave me severe sticker shock. After doing some searching around on the internet I found a brand new unmounted pair of G3''s going for $300. I offered $250, my offer was accepted, and the deal was done. Does life get any better? The only down side - my son has his eye on the G3 and by next ski season he''s going to be bigger than me...

Customer Service

If you can afford the G3, get it. Enough said.

SUPERB! I have Volkl Carver Motion 2002 184cm. BTW, Ski magazine picked this model as ski of the 2002 in the All Mountain Expert category. As far as my expirience with them - I''m totally in love, I have exactly what I wanted and even more. And thats why: 1. I''m big and heavy guy - 6''4", 240 witn equipment on. 2. I have size 13 boots with sole length of 358mm. 3. I used to ski old straight Volkl 207cm - super stiff, long and heavy, but fast and bulletproof. 4. Grip on ice. My old Volkl skid indefenetly. 5. Crud. Extremely hard to control because of the lenght and weight. 6. Turn initiation. Meaning I just wanted shaped ski. 7. Weight and Stability. Now answers: 1. No problem at all. Ski handle me just like this. Very confident, very progressive flex, plenty of reserve, very secure feeling. 2. My boot occupies almoust 1/3 of a ski length, so I was out for the system (ski + binding) to allow ski to flex freely under the boot. Motion system mounted by a single pin! Not even 2 as Pilot. 3. 184cm. Down 27cm. Is this enough? ABSOLUTELY! But you have much shorter skis which you can easily control. 4. Before, ice was a real problem for me. Skidding, jagging, very hard turn initiation. So, I was always trying to avoid ice. NOT ANYMORE! Last weekend I went to Mammoth. Extremely harsh weather, wind up to 100mph (seriously!). All snow blown away from the slopes. Piles of blown powder mixed up with ice and small rocks everywhere. JUST A BLAST. Grip, Stability, Confidence! Everybody were trying to stay away, but I was LOOKING for ice ;-) Powder piles or ice, same thing - just different sound, AMAZING! 5. Have had no chance yet, but from the way of handling powder piles, I believe I''ll be equally impressed. 6. Turns. Anything you want. Long, short, carve - everything done with grace and easy. 7. Super stable! I would say more stable than 207 straight. Seriously! Maybe because they are so much easyer to control. Conclusion: I''m 100% satisfied! I''m in love! Before I was crowling from the slopes after day of skiing. Now others are crowling, but I was fresh and happy! So, if you are in doubt - go with Volkl Carver Motion, extremely capable for very wide variety of terrain and type of skiers. Very worth avery penny paid. Bulletprof. Light. Stable. SUPERB!

I just spent 4 days skiing Whistler/Blackcomb on a rented pair of Volkl Vertigo G3 skis. They were recommended by a fellow employee as well as the ski shop tech. I must say, I have to agree with most of the reviews above. These skis were awesome! This was only the second pair of shaped skis I have tried after skiing the K2 Axis X Pro. That is a good ski as well but I was very impressed with the handling characteristics of the G3. They were great in the powder and once you find their radius they stick like glue and handle like nothing I have ever ridden. The only nit pick I have is that at higher speeds on the ski-out the tips chatter a little bit and they don''t feel as solid as some of the heavier skis out there. However, if you stay within reasonable limits these skis are fantastic! I would highly recommend them!

WOW!!!! That was my comment when I first skied these skis. These are my second set of cut skis and these things rock. Skiing in the East hasn''t been the greatest this year, conditions have been marginal but with these skis it''s like some one put supper glue on the bottoms. Hold a edge...You bet!!!!! You can make these skis do anything you want!!!!! Good Job!!

Awesome! Just spent my first day on these and they rock. I''ve been skiing 33 years and these are an incredible pair of skis. Stable, quick, responsive. Everything you want in an all-mountain ski. And with S912Ps for $540, you can''t beat them.

Customer Service

So far Grand West has been great.

Only comment is based on a pair of G2''s, but when I saw the comments about bent I nodded my head. I got a pair of G2''s 2 months ago and they''re a great ski to ski no doubt. But .... getting onto the lift the other day the attendant made the comment "second pair of those I''ve seen do that" The tip was bent up! Hadn''t been skiing all that hard and not even sure exactly what did it, but was I taken back! Volkl''s replacing them without a problem but I''ve got some serious doubts about the ski. My local shop has seen a good number of them back in as well for bent tips. The G3''s are stiffer and should be more resistant to this but I think I''d say caveat emptor!
