This review is on the 05 Custom. Been riding for about 8 years, mostly in the Vail, CO area and would gauge myself as an advanced-intermediate rider. To sum up, I’d say I mostly freeride with my freeriding style being fairly aggressive but also enjoy the occasional park run. In short, I like to do it all (or at least have that option) and was looking for a solid all-around board that would take me to the next level. Before I bought, I demoed the Atomic Alibi, Ride Prophet, and the Custom. The Atomic and Ride were super boards but the Custom and I immediately clicked. Performance: I was simply amazed at this board’s ability to deliver on whatever I asked of it, in a variety of conditions (Ungroomed, Groomed, Ice). Honestly it was the first board I’d ever ridden that I felt could go places I was not ready for yet. For starters, this board just WANTS to go fast, faster then anything I had ridden before, and its ability to remain stable soon had me comfortably cruising at speeds that would have made me pee my pants on my old board (Old Burton A-Deck). Secondly, this board can really hold an edge, to the point were I had to make some binding adjustments to keep my feet from popping out of my boots during more aggressive turns. Lastly, in 1 day, I was taking and landing bigger air then ever before due to the confidence this board gave me. Looks: I ended up with the 2005 LE so it came with a dotted beige leather topsheet. I was going to buy a standard Custom but since I demoed the LE I was concerned that the topsheet difference might affect the ride. Initially, I was luke warm about it and had some concerns about its durability, but after a full season on it I have to say that it has held up OK and the look has grown on me. Also, the other cool thing is the leather topsheet acts as one big stomp pad so there’s no need for an external one. Price: I’ve read a lot of stuff deriding Burton as over priced relative to other board makers. I really can’t speak to that but I’m of the opinion that if you find a ride that fits you like a glove, going with something less suitable to save a few bucks just isn’t worth it. If you have a little patience, I know it’s hard ;), you can always find a deal. I’ve got my LE for $350 (Retail $525). Cons: Real deep powder can be a challenge with this board but I’m riding a 158. I’m sure it would be better on a 161 or so. In any event, I picked up a longer board for deep powder days but plan to ride the Custom pretty much for everything else. Final Word: If you are looking for a do it all board to take you to the next level (and perhaps beyond) I would highly recommend that you demo the Custom and see for yourself! Customer Service No problems with the board yet. Similar Products Used: Old burton board, various demoes & friend boards. |

none It is actually the 2003 custom but the thing only goes up to 2002. The 2003 Custom is the best all around board out there. The flex is awesome and it is very light. |

For me, it seemed to be really good for ollieing and landing jumps - effortless almost.
Weakness:
Seemed a little slow in the powder - got a bit bogged down, but that could just have been me. It also seemed a little frail - the top sheet got scuffed pretty easy and the edge got chipped with no major impacts. I had this board for five days - for the first day I hated it, it just didn't work for me. I widened the stance that night and it felt a little better. It grew on me but it still isn't my magic board. I like a tough workhorse and it seemed a bit too much like a pretty little sports car. I have the 160cm. It is a beautiful board and gives an stable ride even if you are slightly heavy. Goes great with Mission GT bindings. Turning is a snap, and floats well in powder. This is the best freeride board that I have ever tried.
Weakness:
The top sheet chips and scatches quite easily, but that is what happens when you ride hard. Superb snowboard. Extremely stable and turns well. Similar Products Used: Gnu Temple Cummins, Never Summer Premier, Salomon Fastback, Option Redline |

Great flex, you can ride manuals and butters effortlessly. Fast base and good edge hold. A ton of pop, i can ollie higher than ever.
Weakness:
None, the top sheet scratches way to easily so it won't look great for long! This Board is Sweet. Perfect Flex and not to soft. Floats across Powder and flies down any slope. The base didnt get torn up on rails either. Similar Products Used: Ride Timeless 152 |

A little pricey, but worth it Out of the few board companies that I've tested in the past and through the 15 years I've been riding, Burton has been the only consistent winner, and this 2002 Custom has been the best so far.
